Hello All!
This Month we will be looking at Voss by Patrick White for the morning group and The Plantation by Di Morrissey for the evening.

Also it is that time of the year to get your book selections in for next year so all can be ready when we restart after the Christmas break in February. I will be finalising and posting the dates and times for get togethers next year in the next week or two.

Our final meeting for the year will be held on the 14th December (3.00pm) at the Central Library here at Campbelltown and will include all the book groups from all of the branches. This will be a chance for everyone to meet, mingle and discuss all your favourite books from throughout the year! I would also like to ask everyone to bring a small Chrissie present of a book (new or secondhand) to give to another member on the day.

AUGUST BOOK CLUB

This month sees the morning group reading Nora Ephrons I Remember Nothing and Other Reflections. A look at growing old from struggles with modern life, new technology, remembering peoples names at parties and witty memories of her life that she hasn't (yet) forgotten.

The evening group are reading The King's Speech : How One man Saved the British Monarchy. The book that the movie is based on starring Geoffrey Rush, this is the story of Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue and his relationship with King George VI.

DATES FOR AUGUST

31st August 10.30am for the morning group and 6.30pm for the evening in the meeting Room at the Library.

Now is the time to start thinking about titles to look at for next year, so please drop any suggestions you have to me at the library (or leave at the front desk if I'm not about).

Welcome to a new Month and new post for Book Club!

Due to a number of drop outs and no-shows we now have a few spaces available for both evening and morning groups. If you have a friend who you would like to bring along or you think might be interested please get in contact with me (Dave) on 46454415.

The next meeting will be held on the 29th June at 10.30am for the morning group and 6.30pm for the evening. Both will be held in the meeting room at Campbelltown Library.
Books discussed (amongst other things) are The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and Cloudstreet.

Next month we have our book clubbers at Campbelltown reading two titles that couldn't be more different in subject matter.
First up the morning group will be reading Tim Wintons Cloudstreet, a story about 2 rural families who flee to the city to live and share a house called Cloudstreet. This book is also a winner of the Miles Franklin and NBC awards in Australia.
The evening group will be reading The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne, the story of a boy called Bruno and his unlikely friendship with Shmuel, who lives behind a fence during World War 2.

Dates for this month are:
Morning: 27th April at 10.30am
Evening: 27th April at 6.30pm
Some other upcoming titles we will be reading and discussing are Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad and I Came to Say Goodbye by Caroline Overington.

Eagle Vale Library Book Club

Thank-you for a very enjoyable meeting last week. It was certainly a lively discussion regarding the book House Rules by Jodi Picoult, and the trials and tribulations families face when raising a child with special needs.

A reminder that there is no April meeting so, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Safe, Happy and Eggcellent Easter.

Please be aware this is an American site so the depth of the Australian content isn't huge but it still is a great site for all your reading needs.

Good day all!

With the end of the year upon us there is only 1 more get together for the year.
The morning group will be meeting on the 22nd December at 10.30am in the library meeting room discussing Wanting by Richard Flanagan with the evening group meeting on the 15th December at 6.30pm and discussing Murray Bails The Pages.

In the new year there will be no January meeting for either group, we will be restarting on the 23rd February 2011.

Hi and Welcome to another Month!

With Christmas rapidly closing in don't forget to get your requests for reading titles for next year in to either Carolyn or myself. Also our December sessions at Campbelltown for the morning and evening will be a jointly held session on December 15 at 6.30pm. This is a chance for both the groups to get together and discuss your favourite reads.

This month is the month of Margarets with the morning group reading The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood and the evening group The Sea Lady by Margaret Drabble. Unfortunately the scheduled title for the evening group (Patterns in the Carpet) was unavailable in the required quantity so we have gone for the previously published title The Sea Lady.

The last 2 titles for the year will be Wanting by Richard Flanagan and The Pages by Murray Bail. Both these authors are well known and popular Australian authors.

Hi all!

The Book Club this month are reading Jillaroo by Rachael Treasure (morning) and House Rules by Jodi Picoult. Please follow the links above for more information on the author and title.
It was nice to see this month that we just about had full attendence for both sessions with the rain and cold weather not deterring anyone from coming in.
With the end of the year drawing closer it's time for everyone to start getting in their selections of books that they would like to read for next year. You can drop them off at the front desk of the library or e-mail them through to me at david.manchip@campbelltown.nsw.gov.au or just leave a comment on the blog.
Due to the high demand for Book Club we will be setting up another group at Minto Library. If you have any friends that would be interested please let them know and keep an eye out for the publicity in the Library for a starting date. (most likely in the new year)
Unfortunately there are still no vacancies at Campbelltown Library for book club also with there is a large waiting list. Eaglevale and Ingleburn libraries have only a couple of vacancies also.

Hi everyone!!

This month at Campbelltown Book Club will see the evening group reading the autobiography of television chat show host Michael Parkison, 'Parky' and the morning group the biography of Barack Obama, Dreams from my Father.

Upcoming titles that we will be reading include Patterns in the Carpet by Margaret Drabble, The Year of the Flood by Margaret Attwood (this is the month of Margaret) as well as Wanting by Richard Flanagan and also The Pages by Murray Bail.

We still have vacancies for book club available at Ingleburn and Eaglevale so if you know of someone who would be interested please let them know.

This month in Book Club world sees the morning group discussing J.M. Coetzees' Disgrace and the evening group Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Both have won major book prizes in the last year and are must reads.
In the past month interest in joining the book club has skyrocketed, with numerous people wanting to join. Unfortunately both morning and evening groups are full at the moment at Campbelltown library but we do have vacancies at Eaglevale and Ingleburn. So if you are looking to join please contact either library to book your place as soon as possible as both libraries spots are limited.
The next 2 upcoming titles being discussed are both autobiographies. Parky by Michael Parkinson and Barack Obamas' Dreams from my Father. For information on either title and author please follow the links.

Campbelltown Library Service has recently introduced two new book clubs - at Eagle Vale and Ingleburn branch libraries.
Joining a reading group can help to extend your reading, as you'll be tempted to try different types of books that you might not otherwise have chosen by yourself. Many people can become accustomed to the comfort of reading in a favourite genre and may not realise how much they might actually enjoy an altogether different type of book, until they are persuaded to try by other members of the reading group.
Last but not least, book clubs are great social forums, and provide many opportunities to meet and befriend new people from all walks of life, as well as providing an enjoyable and meaningful addition to your social calendar. So if you are after some lively and interesting discussion, then join one of the Campbelltown library bookclubs.

Hello and welcome to 2010!

I hope everyone had an excellent Christmas and New Year.

The photos included in this months blog are from the last meeting of 2009 which had a great turnout, with lots of lively discussion, good food and plenty of laughter had by everyone involved. Especially popular was the idea of bringing in a present for another member of the Book Club which consisted of a book of your choice.

The first meeting of the year for both the day and night group will be held on the 24th February at the library.

The day groups first title for the year will be Breath by Tim Winton while the night group will be reading The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas. If you would like any further information on either the titles or the authors please follow the links attached.

Hello Readers,
Welcome back to the September edition of The Book Club Blog.
The next meeting of The Book Club will be held on the 30th of September 10.30am for morning and 6.30pm for evening groups.

Next month is American Literature month in the Book Club. At this stage the day group will be reading Tom Sawyer by MarkTwain but this could change because of supplier problems , I will let you know on the night of the meeting. The day group will be reading The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitgerald. For information on the authors and title please click on the link above.

With the end of the year now fast approaching, the 16th of December, 6.30 pm, will be the date and time of our last meeting for the year. This is a joint meeting between the day and night group and gives both groups a chance to meet and talk about their favourite books for the year. So clear your calendar and come along.

This month sees the day group reading Kiran Desais' the Inheritance of Loss and the night group The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga.
The groups have been very well attended in the last couple of months with the night group having no vacancies and just a couple left in the day group.

Hello Book Clubbers

This months titles by Val McDermid and James Lee Burke seem to be have been well liked by the majority of readers (Hooray!!) and we have had quite a few enquiries for other titles by these two authors, we have a wide selection to choose from but I would suggest you get in quick.

Our next two titles for August/September will be the Booker Prize winning Inheritance of Loss by Kiran Desai (day group) and another Booker Prize Winner The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (night group) if you would like some info on any of these two authors click here for Kiran Desai and here for Aravind Adiga.

Hello and Welcome. The April Book club meeting will be held on the 29th of this month. As you may have noticed we have had to re-jig the genres around this Month due to supply difficulties but we should be back to normal by June.
This month the day group are doing Dear Fatty by Dawn French and the night group are doing Gone by Margaret Wilcox.
The next genre we will be doing is Crime and those titles will be In the Electric Mist with Confederate Dead by James Lee Burke and A Darker Domain by Val McDermid.

Welcome back everyone for a new year with the book club. The last meeting for 2008 was a great success with plenty of good food and lively discussion had by all.(photo on the left).

This year we will be starting back up on the 25th February. Same times as usual 10.30am -11.30am for the morning group and 6.30pm - 7.30pm for the evening.

The book club is meeting on the 29th October this month at 10.30am and 6.30pm in the library meeting room.
The day session will be discussing Six Suspects by Vikas Swarup and the evening Sons and Lovers by DH Lawrence.

This month the evening session of the book club are reading Exile by Richard North Patterson "the story of a trial lawyer who must defend the woman he loves against a charge of conspiring to assassinate the Prime Minister of Israel". The day session are reading Lionel Shrivers' We Need to Talk About Kevin, which was the winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction in 2005.

Here at Campbelltown we are about to start a second book club. This book club will be meeting on the same day as our night group but it will be in the morning from 10:30-11:30am. They will be meeting in the library.

The featured author of the month is the late David Gemmell whose last installment of the Troy Saga ( completed by his wife Stella) is due in August. One of the best modern fantasy writers Gemmell excelled at creating heroic, but flawed characters.He sadly passed away in 2006.Try here for his entry in our Spotlight on the author section.

Welcome to the newly created readers blog. We have formed a new book club which meets for the first time this Wednesday and are supporting that group with this blog. This also gives others avid readers a chance to comment on issues with club members as well as each other. The first book up for discussion this week is Thomas Keneally's The widow and her Hero.
